Job Title: Structural Engineer.

Location: Cardiff

Salary: 35,000 – 55,000

Job Type: Full Time Perm

About the role:

NJP UK is a small but dynamic civil and structural consultancy practice and is one of Wales most established independent civil and structural engineering consultancies.

We are looking for an engineer with the ability to take control of their own work and the confidence to brief and supervise a small team of Technicians. The ideal candidate will also be expected to liaise and communicate with external professionals and clients.

The successful candidate will have previous experience of working within a UK consultancy and will be happy to work on a range of interesting and challenging projects ranging in size.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the analysis and design of structures in structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and ideally timber.
  • Managing projects under appropriate supervision including liaison with the client and other external members of the project team.
  • Analysis experience using Tekla Structural Designer 3D modelling software.
  • Producing detailed calculations, both computer analysis based and by hand.
  • Working with the technical team to prepare and produce drawings.
  • Experience of utilising CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) and ability to navigate Revit software using a suitable viewer would be an advantage.
  • Liaising and coordinating structural designs with architects, building services engineers, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Liaising with internal team colleagues to ensure NJP design is fully co-ordinated.
  • Visiting sites to inspect works and resolving site queries as necessary.
  • Producing reports and correspondence.
  • Attending and contributing to internal and external project meetings.

About you:

  • An accredited degree in Structural Engineering is ESSENTIAL.
  • Either Chartered or making progress towards chartership, (IStructE or ICE) would be an advantage,
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in building structures design.
  • Experienced to design steel, concrete, and masonry is essential. Timber would be an advantage
  • Experience of relevant industry software such as Tedds, Telka Structural Designer, AutoCAD.
  • Experience of working with the Eurocodes British Standards and Building Regulations
  • Experience of visiting sites to inspect works and produce inspection reports.
  • Ability to deliver projects from design stage to construction while supporting the contractor on site queries.
  • You will also need to demonstrate that you are capable of managing and leading.
  • Experience of developing new and existing client base
  • Considerable experience of working on a variety of projects.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • A commercial understanding of fee management is essential.
