Job Title: Residential Childcare Worker (Full and Part Time posts)

Location: Walsall, West Midlands

Salary: G6 – £25,878 – £30,151 plus 5% enhancement for unsociable hours and additional payments for sleeping in duties. The salary will be pro-rata for part-time positions.

Qualified starting salary – £27,852 (pro-rata for part-time)

Unqualified starting salary – £25,878 (pro rata for part time)

We are looking for people who have experience of working with children to join our Children’s Residential Services within Walsall. This role requires you to be resilient, resourceful, enthusiastic and motivated to be a positive influence on our children.

All successful candidates will be expected to work as part of a team that provides 24/7 on a rota basis. These shift patterns may vary across the service but they will all include working weekdays, weekends, bank holidays and sleeping in duties (additional payment).

  • Qualified candidates will hold a level three/four qualification in children’s residential care or equivalent.
  • We also encourage applications from unqualified candidates who can demonstrate some experience and a passion for working with children.

About The Role:

  • As a Residential Childcare worker, you will be involved in providing direct care for children and expected to be engage with children and their families and be highly ambitious in helping them to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Our focus is directed towards a child centred approach where we actively promote children’s rights. We deliver our services in safe personalised small group homes where the care is aimed at supporting children’s welfare.
  • Qualified candidates will hold a level three/four qualification in children’s residential care or equivalent.
  • We also encourage applications from unqualified candidates who can demonstrate some experience and a passion for working with children.

You will need:

  • Completion of an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, including the Children’s Barred List check, is a requirement for working with children.
  • Our Residential Homes can accommodate children up to 18 years of age. Due to the nature of this post the Department for Education Quality Standards state that the employees must be 4 years older than the oldest resident. Therefore, applicants must be 22 years of age or older.
  • To work flexibly on a rota basis that is determined by the ever-changing needs of the service, including sleep-in’s, weekends, evenings and bank holidays.
  • The postholder must cover at least one shift per week (times/hours of shift will vary). Postholder must be available to work overtime when required to cover staff absence.
  • In work rest breaks to be taken on site
  • To accompany children and young people on activities and holidays and transport children where required using the home vehicle.
  • This post is covered by the Government’s Code of Practice on the English Language Fluency Duty for public sector workers.
