Job Title: School Nurse

Location: Haywards Heath, West Sussex

Salary: £30,000 – £35,000 pro-rata depending on experience – plus an extensive benefits package

Job type: Part time, Term Time (36 weeks per annum)

Working hours: 8.00am to 5pm, 4 days a week (to include Wednesdays). Term Time plus 2 weeks – 36 weeks per annum.

Great Walstead is a dynamic Independent Day School nestled in the glorious Sussex countryside on a site of 250 acres, surrounded by fields and woodland. The School seeks to nurture academic ability, kind character and a spirit of adventure in our pupils whose ages range from 2 ½ to 13 years old. The School believes that children are born creative, curious and imaginative.

The Role:

An opportunity has arisen for a part-time School Nurse to join our busy and friendly school. You will oversee the medical provision for the school and have responsibility for providing nursing cover and ensuring appropriate medical provision for pupils, staff and visitors on site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understanding and working with the families of pupils with allergies and intolerances. Updating care plans and informing all staff of ‘known’ allergies and intolerances.
  • Leading and providing first aid and emergency care and treatment if necessary. This includes stocking first aid kits to be loaned to staff as required for sports, woods visits, school trips etc.
  • Assessing, implementing and evaluating care of pupils within the sickbay
  • Providing a confidential counselling and health advice service as appropriate
  • Maintain professional awareness and current changes in nursing practice by professional reading and research and attending courses as required.
  • Acting as the professional medic in the School

The successful applicant should have:

You will be a Registered Nurse (RGN) with valid NMC Pin as well as being an excellent communicator with good interpersonal skills.

Other necessary qualities include confidentiality and being able to work on your own initiative and under pressure with a willingness to contribute to the continued improvement of our wonderful school.
