The Impact You Will Have:

You’ll be immersed in a problem-solving and dynamic environment where every day you will be organising and arranging sea freight shipments whilst providing the best quality service.

As a Sea Freight Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the day-to-day sea operations run efficiently and in accordance with supplier agreements. You will handle the Import and Export Sea freight shipments including liaising with shipping lines, overseas agents and both internal and external customers. By using your customer service skills, you will manage and resolve any customer issues and tracking and tracing freight through to final destination.

A Typical Day:

  • Managing the sea freight operations from receipt of bookings from customers to arranging collection and booking cargo with carriers.
  • Requesting and gathering quotations from suppliers in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Generating Export Booking Confirmations/Import Arrival Notices and advising to clients/overseas agents.
  • Managing sea freight export customs entries via an agent.
  • Managing shipments covered by letters of credit and issue certificates of origin when required.
  • Preparing documentation for import clearance, ready for clearance broker or to complete the clearance inhouse. Keeping a track of entries and arranging import deliveries in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintaining communication and control throughout all phases of the sea freight operations process ensuring all necessary information is communicated to colleagues and third parties, ensuring the operation runs smoothly to achieve deadlines.
  • Developing relationships with shipping lines and overseas agents to ensure our customers’ expectations are met.
  • Ensuring documents and clearance instructions are available.
  • Updating account managers with the status of their shipments and dealing with enquiries.
  • General freight administration.

Is this the Role for you?

  • You have a 2:1 logistics and supply chain degree, a placement year in industry would be advantageous OR experience in a similar role within a freight forwarding operational environment.
  • You have strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • You are able to work to a deadline and make decisions under pressure.
  • You are a natural problem-solver and is someone that can think on their feet quickly.
  • You have a methodical approach to work, whilst being able to work accurately at speed, when required.
  • You can work independently and are able to manage and prioritise a busy work schedule.
  • You must possess exceptional customer service skills, and can provide updates in a professional timely manner
