Job Title: Senior Buyer

Location: Dunfermline,Scotland

Salary: Up to £45,000 – D.O.E

Job type: Full time – 39 hours Monday to Thursday 7:30am – 4:30pm and Friday 07:30am to 12:30pm.

The Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Purchasing Department as a Senior Buyer.

Main Responsibilities Include:

  • Successfully negotiate purchasing contracts, price and delivery to ensure optimal performance, costs and payment terms.
  • Assist with regular re-negotiations of terms of business/service agreements and performance evaluation with suppliers, taking corrective action as required.
  • Manage and continuously review the Purchase order system (MRP) to ensure it is accurate, up to date and consistently meets the requirements of the business.
  • Manage suppliers to ensure on-time delivery, quality, quantity, cost of material and supplies.
  • Manage deliveries against schedule and take appropriate action on late or mis-delivered stock in line with Inventory targets.
  • Assist production in maintaining inventory at planned levels.
  • Timely and effective communication of forecasts and Purchase orders.
  • Continually review the total acquisition value offered by existing suppliers and ensure the company’s purchasing remains globally competitive.
  • Interfacing between engineering, production planning operation teams, finance and service.
  • Developing internal and external relationships.
  • Procuring a range of commodity items for specific projects.
  • Utilising contract management tools.
  • Management of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Skills & Experience:

  • Competent user on Computers and the normal Microsoft Office packages in particular MS Word, MS Excel & MS Outlook.
  • Strong organisational and administration skills.
  • Ability to set up and manage ‘Purchasing Structure’.
  • Excellent commercial awareness skills with the ability to analyse and negotiate total acquisition cost.
  • Knowledge of Supply Chain Management.
  • Knowledge and experience of managing and implementing JIT systems.
  • Stock Management and Raw Materials planning.
  • Excellent understanding of efficient materials flow and best practice.
  • Experience in dealing with global suppliers.
  • Experience of buying within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working within a fast-paced procurement function.
  • MRP system experience.
  • Possess a proven track record of achieving cost saving targets/objectives and lead-time reductions.
