Job Title: Senior CNC Machinist

Location: Long Eaton, Nottinghamshire

Salary: £30,000 – £33,000 dependant on experience.

Job Type: 37 hours per week – 7.00am to 3.30pm Mon-Thurs (30 mins lunch), 7.00am to 12.00pm Fri (no lunchbreak)

The role:

Due to continued growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled CNC machinist to join us and make a real difference by demonstrating high-level machining skills and developing machining processes to improve quality and reduce set-up and process times across a range of CNC milling and turning machines. A high mix, low volume environment provides both opportunities and challenges and we are looking for someone who is keen to understand the issues, apply what they know and see the impact they can make.

General Duties

The work is varied, interesting and demanding and we expect high standards for quality and performance. Our equipment goes into university laboratories around the world and expectations on function and finish are very high with most machined parts visible to our customers. With a time served background you will be expected to manufacture a wide range of steel and aluminium components on our HAAS CNC Milling machines and Mazak CNC lathes, always looking for ways to improve the process to save waste, reduce times and improve quality. You will require a good practical knowledge of CNC machining and the latest thinking on effective machining techniques. Your main responsibilities will include:

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Programme, set and operate CNC machinery (Mazak Lathes and Haas 3 or 4 axis Milling machines) to produce components in the most efficient manner to manufacturing drawings
  • Develop existing production processes ensuring optimum productivity (including programming, methods, tooling and fixturing)
  • Use experience, knowledge and capability to reduce setup and run times
  • Work with the Engineering team to review designs and manufacturing methods of components to ensure lowest cost
  • Produce CNC programmes for more complex milled and/or turned components using Edgecam offline programming
  • Co-ordinate machine servicing and carry out basic/intermediate maintenance duties
  • Self-inspection of all work produced using manual measuring equipment
  • Maintain accurate bookings within the Dart system.

Essential Experience from Candidate:

  • Programming, setting and operating experience of CNC Milling and Turning machinery – preferably HAAS and Mazak.
  • CNC Machining experience within a similar hi-tech environment – ideally apprentice trained
  • Able to work accurately to deadlines
  • Able to identify wasteful processes and find ways to improve throughput without compromising safety or quality
  • Self-driven with a strong desire to make improvements whilst working within a team environment
  • An ability to read 1st and 3rd angle engineering drawings
  • An enthusiastic team player with a can-do/flexible attitude
  • Experience of programming with Edgecam or equivalent

  • A willingness to help in other areas of the factory should the demand arise
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience of training others
