Job Title: Senior Engineer – Supplier and Process Capability

Location: Plymouth

Salary: Competitive, depending on experience

The Barden Corporation is recognised as a world leader in the design and manufacture of super precision ball bearings.

The Role:

To lead all Measurement and Inspection activities taking place within Barden. The role holder will be accountable for managing the Incoming and In-Process Inspection teams to ensure that all products are inspected to the level required to meet the company’s overall objectives. To take a proactive approach and establish investigations/studies based on the results collected. Responsibility for reviewing and defining the metrology equipment which is used throughout the organisation and ensuring calibration and required accuracy are maintained.

Beneficial:

  • Successful completion of six sigma projects, trained to Black belt or above
  • Internal auditor with minimum 3 years’ experience of auditing in an Aerospace environment to ISO9001 or AS9100 standard. Formal Auditor training preferred.

  • Six Sigma Certification to Black Belt

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Experience of Quality Engineering within an Engineering or Manufacturing Environment.
  • Formal training and comprehensive understanding of quality management systems ISO9001, AS9100, AS9120. Proven experience in defining and implementing systems to this level in line with Quality Strategy
  • Experience of programming electronic measurement equipment.
  • Ability to interpret Engineering drawings, technical specifications with a demonstrable understanding of Geometric Tolerances.
  • Demonstrable involvement in the use and a comprehensive understanding of quality improvement tools including Failure Mode & Effect Analysis (FMEA), Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), First Article Inspection Report (FAIR), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA), 5Ys and 8Ds.
  • Understanding of Statistical Process Control and how to analyse and respond to trends seen.
  • Strong understanding of Metrology and Measurement equipment and the ability to work

out how to measure complex and precise features.

  • Management and Leadership experience.
  • Experience of running Design of Experiments

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Lead, Motivate and Develop the Inspection team to ensure the standards and skill levels enable department and company objectives to be met.
  • Ensure training is provided to the Standards Room and Incoming Inspection Staff to ensure the ability to operate and achieve consistent accurate results on all fine measurement equipment used within the company.
  • Manage the incoming inspection of parts delivered to the company, defining the inspection level to be completed and reacting to any non-conformances identified.
  • Develop the Measurement Approaches for features on NPI (New Product Introduction)
  • Identification of non-conformances on delivered parts and generation of 8D investigations with suppliers.
  • Lead and Support 8D investigations across Barden as required.
  • Actively use near miss analysis, trend analysis and lessons learned principles in order to facilitate the identification and implementation of robust preventive actions.
  • To ensure FAIR’s are compiled and completed in line with internal and customer requirements.
  • Actively identify and lead Quality improvement projects; ensuring completion in a timely manner.
  • To work with the Quality Team promoting the Quality Strategy and practical implementation throughout the organisation.
  • To promote best practice in the use of thorough and robust techniques.
  • To train others in Quality tools and practices as necessary.
  • Represent the Business at relevant metrology Forums to identify new measurement tools and solutions maintaining the business capability in line with corporate and customer requirements
