Job Title: Senior Registered Care Worker

Location: Wigan

Salary: Point 18-23, £9.88 – £11.18 per hour, plus Night-Time Allowance (sleep in payment) @ £62.50

Job Type: Permanent, Full time

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  1. Behave in a professional manner at all times with sensitivity, dignity and respect towards children, staff, other professionals and service users.
  2. In conjunction with the Deputy Manager & Registered Manager ensure the highest standards of care takes place at all times.
  3. Implement individual and team learning and development plans in conjunction with professional and organisational requirements.
  4. Ensure all policies and procedures in relation to children, staff and others (professionals & visitors) are implemented.
  5. Attend to all the care needs of young people being looked after in the home.
  6. Contribute to the monitoring, evaluation and review of policies and procedures as appropriate.
  7. Provide and / or ensure supervision in conjunction with laid down standards and requirements in conjunction with Deputy Manager & Registered Manager.
  8. Work with the Deputy Manager & Registered Manager at appropriate intervals to monitor and address staff performance.
  9. Assist in the management and be directly accountable for an allocated budget.
  10. Assist Deputy Manager in the implementation of all designated areas of the children’s care plan in accordance with LAC or other reviews.
  11. Assist the Deputy Manager in chairing regular team meetings on rotational basis.
  12. Assist in co-ordination and delivery of regular team performance and service reviews.
  13. Ensure the health and safety of all children, staff and visitors to the home by conducting and responding to regular hazard and risk assessments.
  14. As both practitioner and Senior Officer, address health needs of all children are met by ensuring medication is administered and recorded in accordance with any prescribed requirements by GP / Hospital / Medical Practitioner.
  15. Conduct and / or ensure risk assessments are carried out in respect of any activity undertaken by the young person or staff in relation to their duties.
  16. Ensure that all records are properly monitored and maintained in conjunction with organisational requirements, data protection and human rights legislation and regulation.
  17. Ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times in respect of organisational policies in respect of young people and staff.
  18. Check and monitor all staff records in relation to daily tasks, housekeeping and health and hygiene.
  19. Attend or designate attendance to appropriate staff members for the attendance of all relevant child care planning, reviews and meetings.
  20. Utilise own transport (car driver) in order to transport/support young people to and from family contact, school, health appointments etc.
  21. Co-ordinate effective selection procedures to ensure that high calibre staff are recruited to the organisation.
  22. Assist the Deputy Manager in conducting staff disciplinary and grievance issues and address poor performance.
  23. Attend supervision / consultation sessions on an agreed basis with the Deputy Manager Registered Manager.
  24. Attend all team meetings and briefings and familiarise yourself with all memorandums and information relating to your role.
  25. Ensure preparation for internal and external audit and inspection purposes.
  26. Carry out all other duties as deemed necessary to ensure the highest standards of care at all times.

The Candidate:

  • Genuine commitment to the welfare of looked after Children.
  • Commitment to Anti-Oppressive practice
  • Honesty, Tolerance, Trust-worthy, Patience, Flexibility.
  • Interest in the development of other workers
  • NVQ/ILM level 3 / QCF 3 in Caring for Children and Young People or equivalent or be working toward it.
  • Residential care experience or other relevant experience of working with children and young people.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
