Job Title: Senior Residential Support Worker

Location: Near Heathfield, East Sussex

Salary: 21,500- 25,000 pa + additional payments for Sleep in

Job type: Full Time – Permanent.

Virtue Therapeutic Care and Education is a children’s home with a school attached and is designed to support children with early years trauma and associated needs. Each of our homes has an experienced team of adults who apply a therapeutic approach in a homely environment.
The role

The Senior Residential Support Worker is someone who has been appointed by the Registered Manager to support the children and the day to day running of the children’s home.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Day to day responsibilities of the home

  • Champion on behalf of the young people in the home to ensure that their voice is heard and their rights maintained. Ensure that children and young people are consulted about their care and provided with opportunities to express their views about the running of the home.
  • Manage relationships with all those involved in the young person’s life and other stakeholders and partner agencies who are engaged in providing packages of support.
  • Represent Virtue Therapeutic Care & Therapeutics Services and work collaboratively within a multi-agency framework with external agencies to ensure positive outcomes and safeguarding.
  • Protect the confidentiality of the children and young people and their families.
  • Manage time and resources within the home including managing financial expenditure against budgets and ensuring recording is accurately completed.
  • Work with the Management team to contribute to the planning and development of the service to ensure the smooth running of the home.
  • Gain and maintain up to date knowledge of the Children’s Homes regulations and Quality Standards, the Children’s Acts and other relevant legislation and guidance.
  • Work as instructed to ensure all required standards are met, and when audit and inspections identify improvements, that these are actioned accordingly within the advised timeframes.
  • Be accountable to the Deputy Manager, Registered Manager, Responsible Individual, Registered, Provider and Ofsted.
  • Work in accordance with Equality and Diversity legislation.
  • Support the team to ensure the home provides an OFSTED Outstanding standard of residential care.

It is expected that a Senior Residential Support Worker will manage a small team within the home and will undertake shift leading responsibilities. This will incorporate the following;

  • Participate in staff training as required and contribute to the development of in house training.
  • Work as part of a team.
  • Support the Registered Manager to manage the children’s home staff team including inducting new staff and supervision of staff within their team.
  • Support the Registered Manager to ensure the home provides a positive physical environment, with regard to design, comfort and homeliness as well as hygiene and cleanliness.

Essential Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year within residential care of children in the last 5 years
  • Experience of completing Shift Leading Responsibilities such as petty cash, medication and the organisation and deployment of staff on shift.

Desirable Experience

  • Worked within a multidisciplinary framework
  • Therapeutic work with young people.
  • working knowledge of children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties, Problematic Sexual Behaviour, Child Sexual Exploitation and learning disabilities and behaviours that challenge.
  • Understanding of local authority care planning duties and how children’s homes are required to support these
  • Awareness and understanding of Ofsted inspection framework
  • Awareness of and understanding of the duties and responsibilities arising from Child Protection and Safeguarding legislation as this applies to the role within the organisation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the rights and entitlements of children and young people in care.
  • Understanding of and an ability to respond positively to the needs of young people from
  • Different racial, cultural, and/or religious backgrounds.

Qualifications:

  • QCF Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services (to be obtained within 2 years of working in a children’s home)

Candidates with the experience or relevant job titles of; child care, team leader, trainee, Support Worker, Care Worker, Care Assistant, Domiciliary Care Assistant, Senior Care Assistant, Team Leader, Care Work Assistant, Resident Care Assistant, Resident Care Worker, Care Worker, Elderly Care Assistant, Support Worker, Care, Support Assistant, Enabler, Healthcare Assistant will also be considered for this role.
