Job Title: Service Technician

Location: Hertford based, but will be attending sites around the South East and beyond most days.

Salary: £30k to £42k depending on experience.

Job type: Full Time, Permanent

Hours of work: Mon – Fri. Hours often variable/flexible.

The role:

Fumair are looking for a self-motivated individual, with or without prior experience, to be part of our small but busy department responsible for the testing, servicing and maintenance of fume cupboards and LEV equipment within laboratories, research establishments, schools and manufacturing plants across the South East and beyond. This is a site-based client-facing role that will suit an individual who works well on their own, with good time keeping and social skills and an eye for detail.

As a Fumair Service Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and compliance of fume cupboards and LEV systems are upheld, by conducting thorough examinations, tests, maintenance and providing recommendations for improvement in accordance with the Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) HSG258 guidelines and other relevant British Standards.

The Candidate:

  • P601 qualification would be beneficial, but not essential, as training will be provided.
  • Presentable and polite, with strong communication skills.
  • Reasonably physically able, with a head for heights and occasional confined spaces.
  • A willingness to be flexible, work hard, often on their own, and learn as they go.
  • The role will involve occasional long working hours and nights away with overtime, expenses and accommodation covered.
  • Must hold a clean UK driving license.
  • Must be willing to undergo a DBS check and occasional background security checks at some sensitive sites.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive examinations and tests of LEV systems, adhering to the guidelines outlined by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in the HSG258 document and BSEN:14175 and other relevant standards.
  • Understand and adhere to the specific health, safety and security requirements of each site visited.
  • Prepare detailed reports encompassing precise measurements, observations, and recommendations for enhancing LEV system performance.
  • Identify and potentially rectify faults or deficiencies in LEV systems, ensuring they meet the required standards and regulations.
  • Effectively communicate with clients, offering technical guidance and advice on LEV systems to address their specific needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of work conducted, including test results, remedial actions, and maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team, demonstrating exceptional interpersonal skills and contributing to a positive work environment.
  • Exhibit the ability to work independently and manage tasks efficiently, demonstrating self-motivation and a strong work ethic.
  • Apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve system faults promptly and effectively.
  • Display excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact professionally with customers and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
