Job Title: Sheet Metal Operator/Fitter – Metallics (Aerospace)

Location: India Mill, Darwen

Salary: £14.28 raising to £16.00 dependant on experience and qualifications.

Job type: Permanent, Full time, 37 hours per week over a 4-day week, Monday to Thursday.

Brookhouse Aerospace is a well-known and respected name in the Aerospace Industry currently in its 71st year, and during this time, the business has seen many positive changes following an MBO in 2021 from Kaman UK.

We offer a range of capabilities, including manufacturing composite components, metallics, sheet metalwork, fabrication, machining and treatments.

We are approved and certified for JOSCAR, AS 9100 and NADCAP certificated and are approved Tier 1 and 2 suppliers to the Aerospace and Defence manufacturers in the UK and internationally, such as Airbus, BAE, MBDA, Rolls Royce, Safran and Spirit.

The role:

We are currently searching for a highly experienced Sheet Metal Operator with at least three years of working experience within metallics in an aerospace/manufacturing environment.

As an approved aircraft Sheet Metal Operator who can undertake all aspects of sheet metal fabrication in relation to the manufacture of aircraft components. Must have the ability to work within a team as well as individually to meet manufacturing/operational objectives set by the Team Leader.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Practical skills for using tools and equipment
  • Perform fabrication duties including but not limited to: using the rubber press, shrinking, stretching and other forms of metallic manipulation
  • Use handheld and powered tools
  • Work with small to medium-sized precision components
  • To perform all duties in accordance with defined Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Frequent communication with the department’s Team Leader to understand clear production plans so that objectives can be met.
  • Ensuring the detailed fabrication and production of aircraft components are carried out with accuracy, attention to detail and compliance to specifications and in accordance with schedule times.
  • Maintain compliance to all master processes and associated documents, therefore, ensuring industry standards are upheld in the production of components.
  • Undertaking tasks delegated by the Team Leader, Value Stream Manager &/or Senior Management.
  • Ensuring individual performance and KPI targets are met.
  • Monitoring and maintaining Health & Safety standards.
  • To adhere to procedures which include Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery and People (SQCDP).
  • The regular upkeep of records is maintained ensuring organisational and industry standards are upheld therefore traceability remains explicitly clear.
  • Undertaking training and development for set by the Team Leader &/or Value Stream Manager.
  • To contribute and undertake 6S improvements.

The Candidate:

  • Grade C and/or above in GCSE (or equivalent) Maths and English.
  • Demonstrable continuous professional development
  • 3 years plus sheet metal fabrication experience
  • Wheeling and press break experience an advantage.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical engineering drawings
  • Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy to meet the customers’ requirements
  • Good concentration levels
  • An eye for detail
  • Willingness to learn
  • Has a flexible attitude towards the role.
  • Ability to work as part of the team whilst using their own initiative

Working pattern:

  • 4-day week Monday to Thursday 07:15 am to 5:00 pm totaling 37 hours weekly.
  • Overtime is available from Friday to Sunday at premium rates of pay.

Benefits:

  • Holidays start at 33 days per year (including Bank Holidays) pro rata for 4 days.
  • Overtime rates after basic hours are 1.5 of your basic hourly rates, and Fridays and Saturdays
  • Overtime rates for Sundays are 2.0 of your basic hourly rates.
