Job Title: Shore Based Marine Engineer

Location: Corpach, Kishorn or Kyle. Travel will be required.

Salary: Negotiable, depending on experience.

Job type: Full- time, permanent. Core hours of work 8am – 6pm, Monday to Friday. Travel, overnight stays and overtime including weekend work will be required at times due to the nature of the business. Accommodation offered to the right applicant. Use of company van for business use only.

About the role:

The Shore Based Marine Engineer will organise and maintain the smooth operation and maintenance of the company’s fleet of vessels, carrying out inspections and ensuring all relevant legislation is complied with regarding vessel maintenance, preventative maintenance and state of repair.

About you:

Key Skills, Experience & Competencies

  • Previous marine engineering experience
  • Ideally Second or Chief Engineer certification or equivalent
  • Knowledge of ISM code, Merchant Shipping and Workboat Codes

Main Responsibilities (list not exhaustive):

  • Ensure that all other relevant company and departmental policies and procedures are complied with at all times
  • Ensure all assigned vessels are maintained up to company standards and are compliant with all necessary legislation
  • Advocate a strong safety culture in line with the ISM code, Merchant Shipping and Workboat Codes and company policies
  • Conduct regular vessel inspections
  • Maintain and regularly update a vessel defect reporting system. Supervise and report repairs and vessel upgrades
  • Carryout repairs and overhauls on a range of small coded craft including Ribs and Tug vessel
  • Undertake repairs at dry dockings
  • Report to the Operations Director
  • Identify areas for improvements and modifications
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with statutory, class and other third-party requirements
  • Carryout repairs and overhauls on Machinery and components including Hydraulic, potable water, main engines and generators, cranes, 24v,110v,240v and 400v electrical distribution systems
  • Ensure that all activities, also by third parties engaged, comply with set SHEQ standards
  • Carry out basic training on minor repairs and defects with vessel crew
  • Develop and upkeep oil sampling and assessment system for all vessel engines, gearboxes and generators
  • Ensure vessel defects are appropriately categorised with timescales in place for rectification
  • Compile a brief weekly summary report and a more detailed monthly progress and planning report for Company Directors
  • Any other tasks as assigned by management
  • Ensure that you conduct yourself in a business like and professional manner at all times
