What does a Children’s Social Worker do at Hillingdon?

As a Children’s Social Worker at Hillingdon, you will play a pivotal role in contributing to the well-being and protection of children in the community. The role provides support and mentorship to trainees and colleagues, acting as a mentor for inductees, and ensuring a collaborative and learning-focused environment. Additionally, you will take a proactive approach to emergency safety and liberty issues, demonstrate cost-conscious resource management, and maintain compliance with required standards, including the Social Work Professional Capabilities Framework.

Your core responsibilities include:

  • Caseload Management: Managing a diverse caseload with a focus on safeguarding, demonstrating autonomy in decision-making and intervention
  • Support and Mentorship: Provide support to trainees and colleagues, acting as a mentor and ‘buddy’ for inductees to foster a collaborative and learning-focused environment
  • Supervision and Reflection: Take responsibility for conducting regular, effective supervision, ensuring continuous improvement, critical reflection, and career development
  • Challenging Discriminatory Practices: Recognise and appropriately challenge discriminatory practices within the team and when interacting with service users, colleagues, and senior staff
  • Emergency Response: Take proactive measures in response to emergency safety and liberty issues, ensuring the well-being of children in our care
  • Compliance with Standards: Maintain awareness and compliance with required standards, including adherence to the Social Work Professional Capabilities Framework
  • Record Keeping: Clearly report and record judgments, decisions, and analyses using the appropriate system (Protocol / AIS)
