Job Title: Software Developer

Location: London.

Salary: Competitive.

Job Type: Permanent, Full Time. Hybrid Remote.

Zedify is shaking things up in the logistics sector by transforming the way first and last mile deliveries are done in cities. Our unique system for consolidated, zero emission deliveries ensures consumers get their items how and when they want, and is helping to create healthier, more liveable cities.

We’re looking for software engineers to work in the tech team on the applications used by our hub managers, our riders and our clients. Our dedicated tech platform allows our customers to book and view their deliveries in real time and gives our hubs the tools and data to track, manage and monitor deliveries optimally. We have an exciting road map to innovate processes and transform the customer experience.

We’re a small business with big ambitions and you’ll relish the challenges and opportunities that come with this.

The role:

We are looking for software developers to join the existing team working on our software used across Zedify for managing deliveries. We have the initial version of the software in place and there is an exciting set of features on the roadmap. The software, as a set of websites, underpins activities in our network of hubs making deliveries in cities by cargo bike.

The software is built using Java, Spring Boot, Javascript and MySql. Through a mixture of core business rules and front-ends along with an API, the software enables clients to book deliveries and see the status of their existing tasks. Using built-in route optimisation tools, the hub managers group the bookings into rounds for riders to carry out. With a front-end on mobile browsers, the riders view and record details about the deliveries. The data is managed centrally and drives invoicing, data analysis and providing reports.

We use Jira to track development activities, Bitbucket for code repositories and other tools such as Google Docs and Slack. We have daily check-ins and contact with each other whenever needed. Including automated tests is an integrated part of developing changes to the software and we use pull requests for code reviews.

  • Scoping changes and identifying the approach to achieve them technically
  • Working out technical designs to implement the changes in the existing system
  • Coding and testing both front-end and back-end
  • Troubleshooting technical issues that arise
  • Reviewing code written by others in the team
  • Investigating and making use of third-party components
  • Supporting other developers day-to-day

Your role will evolve as the company grows and highlighting the types of work you’d like to do will be warmly received. You’ll work closely with the other developers and with the wider team.

The Candidate:

You’ll be talented at coding with an ability to work with an existing code-base.

You’ll want to make a difference and be part of a wider team that’s excited about making our cities more liveable. Disappearing into a large organisation or doing the same thing every day doesn’t appeal.

Your core skillset should include:

  • Experience of software development in Java and Javascript
  • Self-motivated and with experience working remotely and in a team
  • Ability to communicate well outside the software team
  • Strong understanding of web software concepts
  • Work with the existing code-base, adopting our code style
  • A degree in computer science or a maths-based subject or plenty of experience in software development

The role can be completely remote or hybrid to suit. We have an office in Cambridge and some occasional visits to hubs and to Cambridge will be needed although this will be rare.

The role can be filled part-time or full-time and the hours can be flexible as long as there are some hours of overlap with 9am-5pm Monday to Friday.

You’ll have a positive outlook and be a great team player, willing to change and adapt your work and approach to get the best results for Zedify. You’ll be excited by our purpose and motivated by our impact.

Any experience in logistics would be beneficial but is not essential.
