Job Title: Speech and Language Therapist – Band 6

Location: Lingfield, Surrey

Salary: Up to £39,027 (experience dependent)

Job type: Permanent, Term Time Only (37.5 hours per week)

The Role:

The speech and language therapist is responsible for assessment, intervention and consultation, to facilitate development of students’ communication and eating and drinking skills.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Ensure duties are carried out in accordance with health and safety regulations as given by the Young Epilepsy health and safety policy and procedures.
  • To meet the needs of all students on your caseload effectively by working in partnership with other disciplines, especially the Therapy and Psychology teams.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the roles of all other Therapy and Health disciplines.
  • Work collaboratively with other disciplines in education and residential services.
  • To manage a delineated caseload of students with epilepsy and/or autism spectrum disorders together with other complex development.
  • Provide opinion on suitability of Young Epilepsy to meet a student’s needs.
  • Provide a baselines and ongoing assessment of each student’s communication and/or eating/drinking skills where used.
  • Deliver and inform parents of the aims of regular therapy sessions.
  • To run training sessions for interrail staff in association with other SLTs on related area of specialism.
  • Offer external training courses in association with members of the SLT team or other staff at Young Epilepsy as appropriate.
  • Participate in staff induction as required.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Registered member of the RCSLT.
  • Certificate to practise from RCSLT.
  • Postgraduate clinical SLT experience in a range of settings.
  • Experience in staff training within an education setting for autism or complex needs would be advantageous.
