The service is a three bedroom house located in Winlaton, near Blaydon.

We support a young man in his thirties with Smith-Magenis syndrome. He has 2 staff to support him through the day, and 1 waking night staff and 1 sleep-in staff member. There is no personal care involved however he may require support via prompting. His behaviour can be intense and challenging at times until he gets to know you, so some experience in challenging behaviour would help but it’s not essential. You would be working in a very experienced team most of whom have been supporting this young man for many years so you will be very well supported.

The gentleman is very independent and like’s his daily routine .He loves to be involved in cooking his own meals, making drinks and baking however he needs prompts and support to complete his daily routine and household tasks. He also loves spending time with his family and is very family orientated his family are the most important people in his life.

The gentleman is very sociable, fun to be around and is able communicate verbally, so he will tell you what he likes and dislikes.

His hobbies are bowling, playing pool, board games, going to cinema and having meals out, he also likes playing his guitar and listening to music as well as playing computer games and seems to enjoy IT in general

The gentleman has his own car and enjoys going for outings with his staff team, he loves to listen to music whilst he is travelling, and makes his own playlist in advance. He likes to visit Saltwell Park and local cafes. He likes to go on holiday and is supported to do so you must be prepared to go on holiday should he want you to do so.

The gentleman can sometimes demonstrate some behaviour’s which challenge, however, staff are trained in Positive Behaviour Support, so those occasions are very few and far between as staff are very pro-active in their support.

We are looking for someone who can play an important part in the gentleman’s life, someone who takes the time to listen, has shared hobbies, can preferably drive, and is motivated to ensure positive outcomes on a day to day basis

What would you be doing?

The gentleman needs thoughtful, patient, enthusiastic and caring people to support him.

Your days will be varied as you will supporting him with all aspects of his daily life so this means we need you to be adaptable as we always encourage choice and choices encourage change.

About you

Supporting people also means doing the things that keep us safe and the gentleman we support needs staff who can help him to take care of his health needs. You will be supporting in attending health appointments which may also cause anxiety, and working with his family who are really important part of his life.You may also need to make decisions and advocate against discrimination where needed.
