Job Title: Support Worker

Location: Wakefield

Salary: £10.50 per hour

Job type: Full Time – Permanent. 25 hours per week. Flexible support is required for some after college shifts plus weekend hours. Extra shifts will be required during School holidays.

We offer a bespoke Case Management Service for people of all ages, with a particular emphasis on those recovering from acquired brain injuries. We have a reputation for taking on the more complex cases, and constantly strive to provide the most efficient and effective service possible. We are looking for a support worker to become part of our growing, professional team.

Ultimately our aim is to empower and support people to reach their full potential and maximize their rehabilitation opportunities in order to promote the best quality of life.

The Role:

Support Worker required for a 17-year-old boy living with his family in the Dewsbury area. He has physical, sensory & cognitive disabilities & is wheelchair dependent following a serious accident.

Applicants require empathetic & dynamic approach and the ability to promote and encourage therapies & engage in everyday home and community activities ensuring, wherever possible, that he is facilitated to engage in the activities of his choice and to be supported to maximise his independence and communication. The care assistants will work with SALT, Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist to support communication and Psychologist to support behaviour.

Main duties:

  • To develop an understanding of the social care needs of the Service User(s) and to identify any problem areas
  • To enable and support the Service User(s)in maintaining their home
  • To enable and support the Service User(s) to make links within the community
  • To promote the Service(s) Users therapies, vocational activities, personal interests, hobbies and skills
  • To enable and support the Service User(s) to effectively communicate their choices
  • To enable and support the Service User(s) to become as independent as possible
  • To co-operate with others in enabling the Service User(s) to follow their individual programme to best effect

General Responsibilities:

  • To promote a consistent positive image of the organisation and behave in a professional manner at all times
  • To be accountable for your practice and take responsibility for maintaining and improving knowledge and skills
  • To work in an open way with trust, honesty and flexibility being the qualities that shine through thus promoting trust and confidence in the service from Service User(s), their families, community and other involved professionals
  • To protect and respect the rights of the Service User(s)
  • To complete records clearly and accurately as agreed and to share such records openly with the Service User(s)
  • To liaise with other colleagues and professionals as agreed within the support plan
  • To ensure detailed knowledge of and compliance with the organisations policies and procedures, including Adult Protection Procedures
  • To maintain a high level of confidentiality in relation to the Service User(s) and matters relating the organisation

Desired Qualifications:

Any of the following:-

  • NVQ Level 2 in Care
  • First Aid
  • Health and Safety
  • Protection of Vulnerable Adults
  • Assessment of Need
  • Risk Assessment

Experience Required:

  • Experience of caring/supporting in a personal or professional capacity
  • Experience of supporting a child with an acquired brain injury
