Job Title: Support Worker (Female)

Location: Newmarket, Suffolk

Salary: £11.00 per hour weekdays, £12.50 per hour weekend daytime

Job Type: Part time vacancies on a small friendly team for a support worker for contracted hours

Miss H is seeking to increase her current team to support her busy and active life. The post is within a small friendly team who provide support over 24 hours a day. Miss A is friendly, sociable and welcoming. She directs her own support, makes her own decisions, and enjoys being spontaneous.

The role:

The role will be based in the community and also in Miss H’s fully adapted home which she shares with her much beloved dog.

Activities includes supporting Miss H to access a range of activities using her fully adapted vehicle. She enjoys visits to the cinema, theatre, watching live music, eating out, visiting, and hosting friends, and maintaining her very well kept home. The role will also include supporting Miss H to care for her small and very friendly dog and involves walking him on lead, feeding, grooming and also playing his favourite games.

Miss H is a very skilled in her electric wheelchair and requires support with transfers, personal care, and domestic tasks.

Key Roles/Responsibilities:

  • Providing companionship and a light-hearted friendly approach
  • All personal care including washing, dressing, skin, teeth, nail, and hair care according to Miss H’s wishes
  • Assisting with transfers using stand aid equipment – all training will be provided
  • Encouragement and assistance with therapy regimes such as physio and hydrotherapy
  • Accompanying on weekends away and holidays, although this is not essential
  • Accompanying to medical or other appointments is requested to do so
  • Assisting independence with medication administration as required
  • Protection in all areas as a vulnerable adult

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Full clean driving licence and confidence to drive a larger wheelchair accessible vehicle
  • Willingness to learn and/or already possess some experience and knowledge of cerebral palsy and working with adults
  • The client has a positive attitude to life and likes to get out and about in her local community and wider afield She likes staff to be able to have fun with her and laugh with her but also respect her need for private time
  • Experience of lone working in the community and in clients’ own homes is an advantage but not essential
  • Use of safe manual handling practice with people with disabilities or willingness to learn
  • Resourceful, reliable, and organised personality with excellent time keeping

Benefits rates for pay will be subject to review in April 24:

  • £58.72 – £66.06 per sleep-in night shift
  • 6 weeks paid holiday (pro-rata)
  • Double pay for Bank Holidays worked
  • Full induction
  • On-going training and professional support and supervision

Applicants must have a full clean driving licence.
