Job Title: Tax Assistant

Location: Glasgow

Salary: £22k – £26k

Job type: Full time – Permanent (although part time will be considered). The successful candidate will be in the office for the first 4-6 weeks for training, but then after that (assuming both parties are comfortable) they will have the opportunity to work from home up to 3 days per week.

We provide specialist, proactive tax planning to minimise liability and meet with clients at least quarterly to optimise business strategy and improve systems and processes. We have developed a range of bespoke accounting models designed to clearly show clients how their business is performing and how they can improve.

Main Responsibilities:

We’re looking for a Tax Assistant to join our team. Working with the Tax Senior and Tax Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

Self-assessment tax returns:

  • Preparing tax return information requests to be sent to clients.
  • Corresponding with clients to obtain the information and documents required to complete personal Tax Returns.
  • Monitoring the receipt of documents received from clients to allow for the preparation of clients’ personal tax returns.
  • Liaising with the tax senior and other team members regarding the information needed (internally) to complete tax returns.
  • Preparing individual and partnership tax returns and Self-Assessment tax computations for review, before they are sent to clients to agree and sign.
  • Submitting Self-Assessment Tax Returns, supporting documents and computations to HM Revenue & Customs.

Income & expenditure accounts:

  • Corresponding with clients to request the accounting records required to complete their income & expenditure statements.
  • Preparing income & expenditure accounts for review and liaising with the tax senior regarding information needed to complete the accounts.
  • Entering the trading results into the Tax Return software as part of the preparation of personal Tax Returns.

Employers’ annual returns of employees’ taxable benefits (Forms ‘P11D’):

  • Preparing information requests to be sent to clients.
  • Following up with clients to obtain the required information and documents.
  • Liaising with team members to ensure the required information is received in a timely manner.
  • Preparing a monthly/quarterly analysis of directors’ loan accounts.
  • Preparing forms P11D for review.
  • Advising clients of the National Insurance payable on the provision of employment-related benefits.
  • Submitting the Employers’ Annual Returns to HM Revenue & Customs.

The Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have a good fundamental understanding of the UK tax system, as well as experience preparing personal tax returns and liaising with clients. We love working closely with our clients so being able to build rapport and nurture relationships is critical.
