Salary: Grade 8 Level 1- 4 (£28,097 to £31,138 per annum)

We provide local government services to around 200,000 people in an area covering approximately 105 square miles. Service includes a whole range of departments such as Housing, Sports & leisure, Schooling & education, Health & social care, Environment & animals and waste & recycling.

Role Info

City of York Council is looking for enthusiastic individuals to joining our housing team as we continue to fulfil our commitment to provide and support healthy and sustainable housing.

We are seeking to recruit to two 18.5 hour posts. We are open to receiving applications from individuals who would like to be considered for each post (part time) or who want to be considered for both posts (full time).

Responsibilities include – Technical Officer (18.5 hours)

  • You will play a key role in ensuring residents occupy homes that are healthy and sustainable
  • Where necessary, adapt homes to meet the needs of the resident both in council owned and private sector homes.
  • The inspection of properties and provision of written reports.
  • Working closely with other professionals such as the occupational therapists during the course of the work to provide feasibility reports with sketch plans, schedules of work and estimated costs.
  • Responding to informal enquiries and formal applications to determine eligibility for grant and other help.
  • Inspecting works in progress or completed work on site and liaising with contractors.
  • Recommend appropriate stage and final grant payments for approval, ensuring documentation is accurate and complete.

Ideal Candidate – Technical Officer

  • HNC Building qualification or 5 years equivalent experience in domestic building maintenance and improvements/adaptations.
  • knowledge of local authority decision-making processes.
  • Excellent communication skills, organisation skills and IT skills.

Responsibilities include – Healthy Homes Officer (18.5 hours)

  • You will play a key role in ensuring residents occupy homes that are healthy and sustainable carrying out a range of duties that will support homeowners
  • You will also help owners of empty properties to bring them back in to use.
  • Accessing homes and empty properties to identify building defects and associated hazards identify what is needed to bring them up to standard.
  • To work with owners of properties and their contractors throughout the duration of any remedial work.
  • To help owners access financial help (loans and energy efficiency grants) to ensure that properties meet the standard to enable them to be brought back into use.

Ideal Candidate – Healthy Homes Officer

  • Diploma or BTEC in Housing, Housing Health & Rating System (HHSRS) qualification.
  • A sound knowledge of the service’s customer standards, practices and procedures and the ability to work to them at all times.
  • Excellent communication skills, organisation skills and IT skills.

This role will be based both at home and at the West offices.
