Job Title: Theatres Technical Manager

Location: Salford

Salary: £41,823.10 per annum

Job Type: Full time, 48 hours p/w

We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Technical Manager (with an LX bias), to facilitate the theatres operation and support the artistic ambition of the organisation.

You will have strong skills in all theatrical disciplines including; sound, audio visual, flying, rigging, staging, with a knowledge of theatre principles and processes.

Please note that this role is ​48 hours per week (averaged over 17 week reference period). You will be required to work on a flexible rota pattern, which includes working weekends, bank holidays and evenings where required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To line manage technicians within the technical team alongside the other Technical Managers in post. To carry out the bi-annual PDR process and regular 1-2-1’s and to act as a mentor for the technicians’ personal development.
  • To manage the effective technical delivery of productions/events, liaising directly with visiting companies /hirers, supervising technical staff and taking responsibility for back of house safety including acting as the Key Member of Staff (KMS) for fire safety
  • Carry out all duties associated with productions/events taking place in the theatre spaces.
  • Working alongside the Technical Manager (LX) in post to create lighting plans across the theatre spaces and other spaces when required. To also liaise with visiting companies to forward plan their engagement, to include designing lighting plans, organising hires and potential purchases.
  • Operate lighting, sound, audio visual equipment, counterweight flying systems, motorised truss systems and any other performance associated equipment.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of lighting equipment within the theatre spaces and other areas of the venue and to plan and oversee the PAT Testing programme.
  • Ensure that all technical areas of the building are kept in a clean, tidy and safe condition. Responsible for making judgement calls and taking decisions as necessary.
  • Complete and file all show related paperwork including show reports, wardrobe sheets, contra sheets and casual finish times.
  • Promote and comply with current legislation and The Lowry’s policies on equal opportunities and health and safety both in the delivery of services and the treatment of others.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • To be proficient in the use of Vectorworks Spotlight, advance EOS Software, sACN Networks, QLab.
  • Skills in all theatrical disciplines primarily lighting and a good knowledge of sound, audio visual, flying, rigging, stage craft.
  • Administrative and organisational skills Ability to work in a team.
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation and practice to include CDM.
  • Knowledge of creating RAMS.
  • Knowledge of theatre principles and processes.
  • An electrical qualification.
  • To have held the position of Chief Electrician or similar role with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in either a producing or receiving house.
  • Experience of managing a team.
  • Experience in a customer-facing environment.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • IT skills in MSWord, cel & SharePoint.
  • Health & Safety qualification eg: IOSH, Formal theatre qualification, Electrical training – BS 7909, IPAF, PASMA, First aid training, Rigging training
  • Intelligent light maintenance
  • Driving licence
