Job Title: Temporary Accommodation Officer

Location: East Suffolk Council, Lowestoft

Salary: £22,571 – £28,226 per annum

Job Type: Full Time (37 hrs per week), Fixed term (12 Months)

Closing Date: 8th April 2022 – 1:00pm

The Role:

You will be responsible for a portfolio of directly managed temporary accommodation, delivering tenancy sign ups, tenancy administration including data recording and retention, notification, and data sharing with both internal and external services. You will work closely with landlords, establish good working relationships with internal and external partners and provide ongoing support to temporary accommodation tenants. You will also be responsible for the delivery of the Council’s Private Rented Access Provision and for procuring accommodation as and when required to meet the Council’s ongoing Temporary Accommodation needs. You will be the first point of contact for our landlords and key partners.

You will be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal, interviewing and written communication skills along with an understanding of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended). You will also have excellent organisation and negotiation skills as well as the ability to remain calm when challenged on decisions and dealing with difficult situations.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Experience of working in a housing environment or related field
  • Knowledge and understanding of Housing Law, Housing Benefit Regulations and Welfare Rights/reform
  • Experience of dealing with the public in difficult situations
