The Role:

We have a fantastic and rare opportunity for a Trainee Quantity Surveyor to work within the Commercial department. Reporting to the Commercial Manager, the Trainee Quantity Surveyor will assist in the provision of quantity surveying services under the direction of the Commercial Team and train as a Quantity Surveyor.

The Person:

Most importantly we are looking for an enthusiastic and self-driven individual who is keen to learn and willing to be flexible to work within our small and experienced Commercial team.

Hours of Work:

You will be required to work 40 hours from 8.00am to 5pm (Monday to Friday) though the nature of the role requires flexibility to work additional hours to meet the needs of the business.

High Level Responsibilities:

Working as part of a team, as a trainee Quantity Surveyor, you will work towards independently carry out the following responsibilities:

  • Provide quantity surveying services under the direction of the Commercial Manager
  • Undertake commercial functions of the projects assigned to you, maintaining strong relationships with the client & site teams
  • Make Client applications against project bill of quantities
  • Maintain commercial project folders
  • Complete weekly sales based on work completed
  • Carry out weekly site visits to establish progress
  • Attend client meetings to ensure commercial presence throughout the project life cycle
  • Review weekly costs for anomalies
  • Ensure subcontracts are placed prior to commencement of work
  • Approve sub-contractor payments
  • Ensure commercial governance procedures are followed
  • Issue contract early warning and valuation of variations
  • Provide project forecast both internally and externally to the client
  • Assist the project manager with any disputes and progress to resolution

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Good standard of education with excellent numerical skills
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office suite particularly Excel
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Used to working to strict deadlines
  • You will also require a full UK driving licence
