Job Title: Transport Manager

Location: Sutton

Salary: £35k – £40k per annum DOE

Job Type: Permanent, Full Time

Advanced Access Platforms is London’s leading independent powered access supplier and due to expansion is looking for an experienced transport manager to work from their busy office in Sutton.

The Role:

The Transport Manager is relied upon to ensure that the Operator is operating safely and compliantly.

The Transport Manager is responsible for ensuring that day to day minor repairs are completed prior to the vehicles use on the road.

Responsibilities

As our Transport Manager you have a variety of responsibilities which include:

  • To manage and ensure that drivers comply with defecting checks, drivers’ hours and tachograph rules, and with the Highway Code.
  • Making arrangements to ensure that the vehicles are maintained properly, including the inspection of vehicles at the appropriate time and the action taken to remedy defects found.
  • Reporting and recording vehicle defects highlighted by drivers.
  • Establishing the method of compilation and the accuracy of all records, which must be kept for a period of no less than 15 months.
  • Making arrangements to ensure that the vehicle/s are not overloaded.
  • Ensuring that authorised vehicles will be kept at the authorised operating centre when not in use.
  • Ensure drivers have the adequate training required for CPC.
  • Where appropriate, notifying the relevant Traffic Commissioner and FORS (in writing) of all prosecutions and convictions concerning the Operator or the drivers themselves within 28 days of the court hearing.
  • Ensure all reports relating to all FORS standards up to Gold are conducted and appropriately actioned.
  • Ensure route planning is correct and cost effective
  • Ensure appropriate toolbox talks are conducted every 2 weeks in line with compliance and FORS.
  • Ensure all driver training is up to date in relation to the FORS Gold standard and plan all training to ensure compliance.
  • To ensure all garages are doing the inspections correctly and thoroughly.
  • To investigate all road related collisions as per the required CLOCS standard.
  • To ensure our OCRS score is as compliant as possible and identify areas for improvement.
  • To ensure all company drivers have current and clean driving licences and are checked at a regular interval.
  • To ensure all driver information is correct and current ensuring all information is regularly checked.
  • Ensure drivers eyesight and health is checked at the appropriate intervals.
  • Ensure all transport related policies are relevant, legal and in date. This must also be inline with the FORS standard of Gold.
  • Run transport costs analysis to look at potential problem areas or areas that can be improved.
  • Have control of all PCN and fines, appeal as possible and keep a log of all fines and charges.
  • Ensure all RAMS relating to transport are current and relevant.
  • Ensure all ramps/bodies are well maintained and free from damage.
  • Ensure an adequate driving training and development program is in place, current and updated as required.
  • Have a recruitment program for new or replacement drivers.
  • Have a detailed training program for all new drivers.
  • Have a plan for breakdowns or tyre replacement.
  • Ensure drivers have a system to follow should anything happen whilst out driving, from collisions, break downs, flat tyres, customer complaints, etc.
  • Have a system for dealing with customer/public complaints about transport from bad driving to abusive behaviour.
  • Look at the company van fleet and look to start a system of compliance for vans from daily checks to compliant driving.
