The company:

We help our clients design and deliver digital, technology and organisational transformation – solving real problems for real people. We research, design and build things: better services and products, better ways of working, better user experiences and better organisations and culture. Our core areas of expertise are analysis, research, analytics, data; user-centred design (service design, content design, interaction design and user research); product management and delivery; business change and people development.

We work in the public sector, supporting initiatives that improve society and the lives of citizens; with not-for-profit organisations, charities and social enterprises; and with some private-sector companies. The key sectors we’re working in at the moment include education, apprenticeships & skills development, social care, rehabilitation, housing and criminal justice – but we’re always growing, developing and finding out about new things.

The role:

A successful user researcher will have a combination of research and analysis skills. Some of the things we look for include:

  • Understanding and engaging with people to build relationships quickly with lots of people from different backgrounds

  • Synthesising and analysing a variety of research findings into actionable outputs with an understanding of how this impacts design decisions
  • Synthesising and analysing research findings into intelligent design solutions using prototyping tools to create testable outputs
  • Working with people to create innovative, workable ideas that can challenge the way that they see things
  • Utilising your organisational and communication skills to manage work in a fast-paced environment
  • Visualising and understanding the end-to-end user journey, using holistic thinking to simplify and offer solutions for complex problems
  • Presenting your findings and ideas (both verbally and visually) in a structured way that sets out complex issues very simply

Requirements:

You are open, curious, and excited about making a difference during this exciting period of growth. Some of the things we look for include:

  • Experience of working in agile (preferably in a GDS setting): You have an awareness of agile tools and approaches, and how to use them
  • Digital perspective: You understand how the digital economy is changing user behaviour and the government landscape
  • Communicating information: You can communicate effectively across organisational, technical and political boundaries, understanding the context
  • Well organised and good at working independently as well as with other people
  • An ability to extract and interpret information from a user centred perspective to develop logical, and creative solutions for users
  • A positive outlook, enthusiasm and willingness to learn are essential
  • Some experience of working as a researcher or have trained in this area
