Job Title: Warehouse Operative

Since inception, the Company has grown from a simple producer and supplier of cured hams to one of the UK’s leading providers of fine foods with a broad range of premium products including an array of meats, cheeses, smoked fish, puddings, cakes and confectionery, as well as seasonal luxury items, such as hampers and gift selections.

Scope:

Due to the continued expansion of the Company, a new position has become available in the Warehouse Team. This represents an excellent opportunity to work alongside a talented and passionate team within a growing team supporting a business retailing the highest quality food products.

Reporting to the Warehouse Team Leader, the post will have the following key responsibilities across each area of the business:

Receiving Goods:

  • Receive deliveries of goods and materials from suppliers, checking for accuracy and quality.
  • Unload and unpack goods from delivery vehicles, using appropriate equipment as necessary.
  • Record details of received goods, update inventory records, and report any discrepancies or damages to management.

Stock Control:

  • Ensure all goods are stored safely and securely in appropriate locations, using the correct storage methods and equipment as required.
  • Perform regular stock checks and inventory counts to maintain accurate records of stock levels.
  • Monitor stock levels to identify and report any potential stock shortages, surplus, or expired products.

Order Picking and Dispatch:

  • Pick and pack orders according to company standards and customer requirements, using the correct materials and equipment.
  • Prepare orders for dispatch, ensuring accuracy and timeliness, and completing necessary documentation.
  • Load goods onto delivery vehicles using appropriate equipment and safety measures.

Health and Safety:

  • Follow all health and safety regulations and guidelines, using protective equipment as necessary.
  • Keep the warehouse clean and tidy, ensuring that all equipment and machinery is maintained in good working order.
  • Report any safety hazards, incidents or accidents to management immediately.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve processes and procedures, and make suggestions to management.
  • Participate in training programs to improve knowledge and skills.
  • Contribute to the development of new ideas to improve the overall efficiency of the warehouse.

Computer Literacy Skills:

  • Basic computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, and Outlook would be beneficial for this role.
  • The ability to use inventory management systems and other warehouse software is also required.

Experience:

Ideally a candidate should have at previous experience working in a warehouse environment within a food business would be beneficial but not essential.

  • Experience in a warehouse environment, preferably in FMCG.
  • Ability to operate warehouse equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings if required.

Ideal Candidate Characteristics:

  • Good level of numeracy and attention to detail;
  • Comfortable with various software packages;
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team;
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure;
  • Personable and able to liaise with colleagues;

Hours of Work:

Full-time: Monday – Friday, 8am – 4.00pm with a high degree of flexibility required. We have an extremely busy peak Christmas period with a requirement for overtime and extra days of work.

There will be an initial three-month probationary period.
