Job Title: Web Developer/ Web Application Engineer

Location: Quedgeley, Gloucester

Salary: Negotiable (dependent on experience)

Job type: Full Time, 9:00am – 5:00pm, Monday to Friday, some out of hours working will be required. This is an office and home-based role, applicants will be expected to attend the office for two days per week.

We are a Gloucester based eLearning company, with a team of people made up of Digital Creatives, Implementation / Training, IT, Sales and Marketing who all contribute to making the business one of the most positive, close-knit and friendly working environments in the industry.

We use emerging technologies, innovative design and industry-leading standards to create products and solutions, which are delivered to the corporate, public and not-for-profit sectors. Some of the company’s customers include The Gaming Commission, Rapiscan, The Scottish Government and Sodexo, to name just a few.

Applicants must be based in the UK, Learning Nexus is not interviewing overseas candidates at this time.

The successful candidate will possess 2+ years’ experience of:

  • Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP system administration
  • LAMP server troubleshooting and performance tuning
  • Web hosting control panels including WHM/cPanel and Plesk
  • Web application installation and maintenance

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Planning, testing and performing the installation, upgrading and migration of Moodle / Totara LMS web applications
  • Maintaining and supporting the web hosting infrastructure
  • Troubleshooting, root cause analysis and problem solving, including performance optimisation
  • Performance and vulnerability testing of new and existing systems
  • Developing and advising on the web hosting strategy
  • Providing mentoring for other team members

Non-Technical Skills:

  • The ability to identify and highlight risks and to suggest mitigations steps
  • Sound knowledge and awareness of information security and data protection
  • Problem-solving – application of logical and effective problem-solving approaches
  • Analysis skills – ability to produce insightful analysis to aid business decisions
  • Good communication skills

Highly Desirable Technical Skills:

  • Moodle / Totara LMS installation, upgrading and troubleshooting
  • AWS / Azure or other cloud hosting platform

Desirable Technical Skills:

  • Windows Server, IIS, ASP/ASP.NET system
  • PostgreSQL system administration
